www.equifax.ca is the website for Canadian residents, not California residents.  However, you can still find out a couple of tips specific to Californians as well as some basic Canadian credit information.

California law SB 168, Bowen (Identity Theft Protection) See http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:x11-yFdjgY0J:info.sen.ca.gov/pub/01-02/bill/sen/sb_0151-0200/sb_168_bill_20011011_chaptered.html+California+Law+SB+168+freeze&hl=en is California?™s security freeze law, beating out Louisiana, Vermont and Texas in strength because of its extension of security freeze rights to all residents, not just identity-theft victims.  While some other states are considering security freeze laws, these four states have taken the lead in this area.  What is a security freeze?  As defined by the bill linked above, a security freeze ?œwould prohibit the release of information from a consumer credit report while the freeze is in place, except as provided.??nbsp; The consumer can later have the freeze lifted.  Of course, a modest fee will be charged for enacting a security freeze and possibly for lifting it.  

In addition, the state places an $8 cap on credit report fees charged to the consumer.  Of course, all U.S. residents are already eligible for a yearly free credit report from Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.  You can read about this amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act at the official government site.
